About Us

Traver Joint Elementary School District is a single school district that was founded in 1883.  It is a rural school district located in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley and covers approximately 45 square miles.  Half of the student population is bused from the outlying area while the other half live in the unincorporated town of Traver.

Traver School is a kindergarten through eighth grade school, with a First Five preschool on site as well.  Approximately 250 students are served.  There are 10 classrooms, a cafeteria, library, first five preschool, and a multipurpose facility.  The base program provides for a Superintendent/Principal and ten highly qualified credentialed teachers.  The First Five program is currently is run by a program director and 3 part time aides. Traver First Five is currently in its fifteenth year of service.  The district also employs an administrative assistant, business manager, 2 food service employees and 2.5 custodian/bus drivers.

Staff members who provide support to our instructional program include: Program Director, 6 Instructional Aides, part-time psychologist, part time family service worker, and part time school nurse.  Traver School is involved in the Master Plan for Special Education in Tulare County.  This provides service for speech and language, vision and hearing, and special education.

Teaching is a career and Traver School makes certain our teachers are highly qualified and experienced, competent, and committed to their profession.  The district is provided staff development through its participation in staff development programs operated by the Tulare County Office of Education.

Traver School parents are involved and participate within the school in many different ways.  Parents are informed of their child’s progress through report cards, parent/teacher conferences, standardized test scores, progress reports, home visits and telephone calls.  Parents serve on the School Site Council, English Language Acquisition Committee, and Migrant Parent Group.  Parents are also very active in the P.A.T. and many are willing to participate in activities such as Family Fun Night, Jog-a-Thon, field trips and class parties.  Parents also participate in Math, Science and Literacy Nights hosted by the school throughout the year.  Turnouts for conferences, open house, and all school sponsored events are always excellent. Traver School is proud of the strong connection between students, staff and community. Go Mustangs!
